NSW Premier receives hazelnut trees for the Botanic Gardens to celebrate Ferrero’s $70m investment in Australian agriculture
The NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian accepted a hazelnut tree today from Ferrero Australia to launch the company’s 9th CSR Report and celebrate its $70 million investment and commitment to Australia’s hazelnut industry.
Ferrero’s CSR initiatives are prominent in Australia with just last week Ferrero Group company Agri Australis celebrating the planting of almost one million trees in Narrandera over five years.
Speaking at the CSR launch event at the Italian Cultural Institute, Ms Berejiklian said: “Ferrero has made a significant contribution to New South Wales through its $70 million investment in Agri Australis and the company’s factory at Lithgow.
“These investments have created hundreds of local jobs and we are proud to be partnering with Ferrero to develop a regional hazelnut industry in the Riverina.”
Ferrero Australia’s Chairman and Managing Director, Roberto Grasso, said: “It’s great to celebrate the launch of our 9th CSR Report because as a company we’ve always had CSR at our core and it defines Ferrero’s business model.
“We’re pleased to be joined by Premier Berejiklian and present the gift of the hazelnut trees, which will be planted in the State’s Botanic Gardens in the Blue Mountains. This gift is symbolic of our commitment to the state and continuing to invest in Australia.”
The highlights from the 9th CSR Report include:
• Kinder+Sport program being extended to 30 countries including Australia, moving four million children globally
• 70% of the cocoa used by Ferrero worldwide is certified as sustainable and is on track for 100% by 2020
• Ferrero uses 100% sustainable palm oil, certified as segregated
Ferrero’s commitments and achievements under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals were acknowledged by other organisations attending the event including, the Department of Primary Industries, Taronga Conservation Society Australia, Fairtrade ANZ and Global Compact Network Australia.
