FERRERO AUSTRALIA BOOSTING AUSTRALIA’S HAZELNUT INDUSTRY

FERRERO AUSTRALIA BOOSTING AUSTRALIA’S HAZELNUT INDUSTRY

Agri Australis, a subsidiary of the Ferrero Group, has completed planting almost one million hazelnut trees in the Riverina region, near the town of Narrandera, New South Wales; the result of almost five-years of work.

Sussan Ley MP, Member for Farrer and Assistant Minister for Regional Development and Territories, had the honour of planting the last tree on the large-scale demonstration farm on Wednesday 21st November. Ms Ley said: “It was great to be a part of this monumental occasion, which represents many years of hard work by Agri Australis, the local community and the nut industry. The hazelnut farm will make a significant difference to developing the agri-business sector in New South Wales, and there is no doubt that Ferrero’s investment in the region will continue to boost the local economy through further jobs and opportunities.”

Established in 2011, Agri Australis represents a $70 million investment and confirms Ferrero’s commitment to illustrating the potential of the sustainability and profitability of the hazelnut business in Australia.

Claudio Cavallini, General Manager of Agri Australis said: “Everyone has worked extremely hard to complete the planting phase of the project and we’re all very proud to have reached this milestone – it certainly represents a lot of hard work by many people locally and we’re very thankful for everyone’s dedication.”

The next phase for the large-scale demonstration farm is to support Australian growers to establish a local hazelnut industry by sharing technical know-how and trees from its nurseries.

Agri Australis will continue to work with the likes of Hazelnut Growers of Australia, farmers and the community to boost and develop the country’s hazelnut industry.
